Bible Self-Defense: The Sin of Sodom & Gomorrah
June 6, 2018 @ 1:00PM — 2:00PM Eastern Time (US & Canada)
Join Soulforce for an hour-long webinar where we break open, without fear, the story of sin in Sodom and Gomorrah.
What We Do
Soulforce's body of work titled "Breaking Open" explores the scriptures that have been used to harm us and to heal us. We are mindful that so many of our secular and faith-based comrades working for gender, bodily, and sexual liberation are up against religious opposition, from the grassroots to the United Nations. This work is for grassroots activists, faith leaders, youth, elders, allies, human rights advocates, lawyers, government workers, and more.
What if you could hear the faulty theological premises embedded in not-so-religious sounding right wing arguments?
What if scriptural attacks didn't have to be a dead-end?
What if you could go into contested space armed with your own powerful ethical, values, or theology-based framework that can stand up to any opposition?
In this Bible Self-Defense series, we are going to do just that together. Our second webinar in this program is intentionally focused on unpacking the story of Sodom and Gomorrah, one of the go-to weaponized verses in Christian scripture against LGBTQI people.
Your Hosts
You will be hosted by three Soulforce staff: Reverend Alba Onofrio, a graduate of Vanderbilt Divinity School, Yazmeen Mendez Nuñez, and Haven Herrin.
Together we bring over 30 years of experience in national and international solidarity organizing that has centered spiritual reclamation while challenging right tactics on issues of sexual, gender, racial, immigration, and economic justice.
Soulforce is a 20-year-old LGBTQI social justice organization dedicated to sabotaging Christian Supremacy. We are not a religion-based organization, but we do profess a faith in the power and possibility of collective liberation, and we are convinced we won't get their without spiritual and theological acumen on our side.
The Bible Self-Defense series is a monthly webinar hosted on the first Thursday from May to October 2018. Other opportunities for partnering with Soulforce on political and theological resources, campaigns, and educational events abound. Be in touch at Spirit@Soulforce.org to learn more.
